What is a WAHM?

By Leigh Hunt on October 14th, 2007

WAHM is an acronym for Work At Home Mum.  It’s used to describe a growing phenomenon of mums that are taking control and choosing to earn an income from home, typically so that they can care for their own children as much as possible.

You might become a WAHM because you need to earn the extra income.  On the other hand, your primary motivation may be meaning and purpose outside of being a mum and to use the ol’ grey cells.

Whilst our priority as mums is the welfare of our children, we should not feel guilty about needing something more, something different.  After speaking to many WAHM’s it’s obvious that taking control of your own time and making a financial contribution to your family is both empowering AND confidence building.

To learn more about WAHM’s and read some start-up stories take a look at the blog www.homeworkingmums.co.uk.
