Just When You Feel Like Giving Up..

I’ m reading an excellent book at the moment called ’The 80/20 Principle‘ by Richard Koch.  The 80/20 principle is a term first coined by a man named Pareto that states 20% of effort leads to 80% of rewards.  An interesting theory in itself, but I came across another principle in the book that resonates with me, and wonder if it does with you too.

It’s a concept called ‘The Tipping Point’.  It says that when you start something new you will put a large amount of effort into it at the beginning without any results.

I liken it to a new business start-up, or a new website launch.  You have to exert an enormous amount of energy to get the business up and running without seeing any financial reward for your efforts.
After hundreds of hours of blood, sweat and toil it’s very easy to become disheartened and just give up.  I know how this feels because I’ve been tempted on more than one occasion to abandon projects that just haven’t been developing as fast as I’d like.  You start to wonder if that great idea is really so great after all. 

But, then there comes a ‘tipping point’.  An ‘invisible line’ you cross when just a little more effort leads to a shed load of reward.  Then the success starts rolling in.

So if ever you’re feeling despondent because you’re working really hard, getting all the right signals, but not getting anything back financially, stick with it and chances are very soon your business will start to take off.

In fact, doubts creeping in is often the signal that things are about to change, so don’t give up!

Great post! That book sounds just the thing.
It is tempting to give up especially working from home because of family life and other distractions.
